Localization

Montaña Alavesa is located within the Historical Territory of Alava which is part of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. Specifically, it is located in the southeastern-most part of the province of Alava.

Outside of Alava, it borders Navarra and the County of Treviño (Burgos). It not only borders these places, but they almost enter a nature area of this region.

Within Alava, Montaña Alavesa borders the Cuadrillas of la Rioja to the south, Añana to the west, and Vitoria and Salvatierra to the north.

The Cuadrilla of Campezo-Montaña Alavesa is made up of six municipalities: Arraia-Maeztu, Bernedo, Campezo, Valle de Arana, Lagrán, and Peñacerrada. These six municipalities are divided up into 47 populated areas.

The entire Region is made up of 485.30 km2 of rugged territory, most of which is above 600m altitude.

The Montaña Alavesa region is easy to get to. Depending on which part of Montaña Alavesa you want to get to, you can get there from the Alavesan capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, either via Vitoria pass (A-2124), Azáceta pass (A-132), or Opacua pass (A-2128).
